Majestic Wine is the UK's largest wine warehouse, with 136 stores and a turnover of £170m. A pioneer in e-commerce, in 2007 Majestic decided to replace their existing online store.
The Challenge
Snow Valley was asked to deliver a scalable e-commerce solution that would allow Majestic to grow their online business.
The Solution
The solution provided by Snow Valley included a number of new features. These included staff reviews, a new store locator and a white-label ‘French version’ of the site, which allows UK customers to place orders for pick-up from their stores in Calais and Cherbourg.
Snow Valley integrated the new solution with Mercado, which provides search and navigation. This ensures that customers can find the wines they are looking for with greater ease and targeted promotions can be made available as the customer navigates the site.
The front-end design for the new site was also provided by Snow Valley. Majestic Wine wanted to freshen up the look and feel of the site and make it easier to navigate. Using the functionality provided by Mercado, Snow Valley’s design and usability team was able to organise the content and ensure that it is presented to the customer in a clear but engaging format.
The design was also structured in a way that allows targeted promotions and content to be presented to the customer as they navigate deeper into the different categories and products.
Icons and imagery are used as extensively as possible to allow customers to identify the body strength of the wine, whether it has won awards, and if they are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
